Gardien, the UK's No1 garden security experts and online crime prevention company, is warning gardeners across the country that they could be the first victims of the crime wave now expected and highlighted in a leaked Home Office document to No 10 yesterday.
Bill Seddon, MD of Gardien, states “This document comes as no surprise to us as we have seen significant increased traffic to our website www.garden-security.co.uk in recent weeks indicating that people have either been victims of a recent garden theft or they are taking a proactive approach to increasing their levels of garden security. This follows the high number of reports they are seeing in the local media about garden shed break-ins and the targeting of metal gardening equipment, garden antiques and other outdoor items by the opportunist and organised thief. Whilst the levels of home security have increased significantly in recent years, garden security is still in its infancy and it therefore comes as no surprise to us that the anticipated crime wave will initially impact on the soft targets – our gardens!
Since the Gardien web site was launched just under twelve months ago it has carved out a reputation for being the most comprehensive resource for the public, as well as crime prevention and community safety practitioners looking for sound advice and accredited garden security products.
Bill Seddon comments further, “Such was our concern at the levels of garden crime reported to us this Summer that only last week we wrote to the Chief Constables of all UK Police Forces calling on them to work with us in raising the profile of garden crime in a new and dynamic partnership arrangement across the country. Our latest initiative is the offer of free advice and support to all victims of garden crime to complement that offered by the Crime Reduction Teams.
We believe there needs to be a renewed understanding between the public and private sector in tackling problems faced by our communities. They have the problems and companies like ours have the solutions so it seems logical that we should work together more closely. It would be a win-win for all concerned”.
