GARDIEN CALLS FOR VAT FREE SECURITY PRODUCTS

Gardien, the UK's premier garden security company, is calling on Government to step up action to prevent cycle theft, which is a persistent and historic problem faced by the public. Despite the overall 8% drop in national crime rates reported in the recent UK Home Office statistics, there was a reported increase of 7% in bicycle theft.

Bill Seddon, MD Gardien, says 'Whilst the Government has been vociferous in its calls for the public to take to the roads on their eco-friendly cycles, there is little evidence to show that problems associated with cycle theft are being tackled in our neighbourhoods. We have been focussing our attention on this problem for some time now in order to come up with some practical and affordable solutions. This is in response to calls from our customers seeking to protect their expensive cycles which, more often than not, are stored in sheds in their gardens.'

Mick Gains QPM, crime prevention expert and Security Director at Gardien, adds 'Today's cycles are both sophisticated and costly and, as such, their security needs deserve careful consideration. A shabby wooden shed with a two quid padlock offers little protection. At Gardien we have selected the very best in steel sheds and high quality locks and fixings to help people protect their valued property, along with the very latest in DNA property marking. I would like to see some help coming from Government to address the cycle theft problem and encourage people to invest in cost effective security measures.'

Accordingly, Gardien have approached Alan Campbell, (Parliamentary Under-Secretary for State, responsible for crime reduction), suggesting a national initiative, such as the introduction of, say, zero rated (or reduced) VAT for security products - particularly for crime target areas, such as shed protection. Surely an area where such investment would pay for itself.

Gardien is one of the fastest growing websites in the UK and is focussed solely on garden security related matters. Established 3 years ago it is now the favoured resource of Crime Prevention practitioners, Police and the gardening public offering a range of advice and services from their site www.garden-security.co.uk
