Getaway gardens at risk from crime blitz

Gardien, the UK's No 1 online garden security experts, are warning householders to be on their guard over the next two months as their gardens, property and homes are all at risk from both the opportunist and organised criminal element.

Bill Seddon, Managing Director of Gardien, says "With the onset of cold winter days and the Christmas festivities approaching many people are locking up their homes and jetting off to warmer climes or visiting friends and relatives around the country. Our experience has shown us that this has also proved historically to be a time when there is a significant jump in crime figures with burglaries of homes, sheds and outbuildings all showing an increase. Now is the time to carry out your winter security maintenance check”.

Gardien is offering some sound pre-Christmas crime prevention advice:

  1. Check that your security lights around the house are all in good working order and your alarm is serviced.
  2. Make sure all your garden furniture and leisure equipment is securely stored away in your garage or SECURE SHED for the winter.
  3. Make sure your shed is well secured with a good SHED BAR or PADLOCK -and DON'T use the shed to store or hide valuable Christmas presents from the prying eyes of children - THE THIEVES KNOW YOU DO THAT AND IT’S THE FIRST PLACE THEY CHECK
  4. Don't store existing or new bikes in the garage or shed without making sure they are securely fixed with restraining chains, clamps or good locks. Also get them PROPERTY MARKED before you gift them.
  5. If visiting relatives or returning from shopping don't leave presents on the back seats of the car whilst parked in your driveway - make sure you put them in the boot and lock the gates behind you when parking in the drive.
  6. Make sure your PERIMETER is secure and fencing is in good order.
  7. Check your insurance cover and update your inventory - download FREE from our website.
