GARDEN STRIPPING CRAZE

NO, it's not a new trend to walk around naked in the garden but the latest criminal craze sweeping the country is to leave the garden itself nude. Gardien, the UK's No1 garden security experts, are warning householders and gardeners across the country to be on their guard against opportunist and organised thieves who are stealing in bulk and targetting newly laid lawns, patios and paths as well as garden furniture and accessories.

Bill Seddon, MD of Gardien says, 'We are receiving regular reports of instances where newly laid lawns have been rolled back up in the dead of night and removed. This trend is not confined to any area of the country but is widespread. Other favourites are York stone patios and paths and good quality sets of garden furniture, antiques and garden accesories. Most of these crimes are easily preventable by taking simple precautions including property marking, restricting on-site access with good quality gates and fencing, and ensuring new fixtures and fittings are secured to the ground where possible.'

Gardien offers a comprehensive resource from their website www.garden-security.co.uk which offers advice on crime prevention, valuation, retrieval and insurance. The site also has a range of police approved and accredited security products which are readily available and can be despatched swiftly.

Bill Seddon again, 'Earlier this year we launched our SHEDSECURE campaign encouraging people to walk outside, examine their shed and ask themselves one simple question 'Could I gain entry?' If the answer is YES then it needs dealing with. We are now extending that challenge to do the same around your garden itself and be GARDENSECURE. It will only take a few minutes but ultimately it could save you hundreds of pounds. It is not only homes at risk because Pub gardens are also being targetted. Garden crime is preventable but with losses nationally running into hundreds of thousands of pounds, and the prospects of it getting worse as unemployment and the recession bites, everyone must be more vigilant. We also believe that there is a large amount of under-reporting so we would encourage victims to let us know via our web site even if they have not reported it to the Police or their Insurance Company'
