Variety is the spice of GARDEN THEFT!

As reported in our Feb newsletter, the vast majority of garden crimes go unreported and unsolved. This is hardly surprising, considering the total lack of national statistics in this crime growth area!

However, the following list of thefts reported to us during the past 4/5 weeks, indicates that garden crime is not only a country-wide problem, but also, that nothing in your garden is safe!

5 x Shed Break-ins: Herts

Theft of 2 x lead statues of Mercury: Lincs

Theft of 2 x Ornamental Swans: Hereford

Theft of several Staddle Stones: Powys

Theft of Coadestone Garden Urn: Hampshire

Multi thefts of York Paving Stone: Surrey, West Sussex, West Yorkshire

Theft of terracotta Statue: Surrey

Thefts of motocross bike & car trailer: South Bucks

2 x thefts of prize canaries: Derbs, Shropshire

Multi thefts of gardening equipment: Yorkshire

Theft of two large Bay trees: Greater Manchester

Theft of mountain bikes from shed: South Manchester

Theft of mower, strimmer, tools: North Cheshire

These are the tip of an expanding iceberg!

Further details on most of the above incidents can be found on our Blog at www.garden-security.blogspot.com

If you have details of any garden crime or vandalism, we shall be pleased to hear from you on feedback@garden-security.co.uk

Security Spring Clean

With the onset of Spring, people are now starting to look to their gardens, tidying them up, checking out the mowers etc and also acquiring new tools and equipmnet which have been heavily discounted in the recent sales by major's like B&Q, Focus etc.

Now is also the ideal time to carry out a 'Security Spring Clean' making sure that-

  1. All power tools, barbecues, garden machinery and equipment etc.are postcoded with Ultra-Violet Stencils
  2. All Garden Antiques are coded and identified with a DNA Property Marking Kit.
  3. Sheds and gates are checked for wear and deterioration after the very cold winter:
  4. hasps may have weakened and rusted. Reinforce your gates with the Neulock Bolt.
  5. padlocks may be seized and corroded. Consider replacing with a Neulock.
  6. screws and fastenings may have weakened and require replacing.
  7. For added security, consider the addition of a Shed Bar or an approved Shed Bolt and Shackle.
  8. If your shed has fared badly during the harsh winter months, a Secure Metal Shed may be a more secure & economical solution.
  9. Undertake a five minute inventory of your garden possessions using our Gardien Inventory, which you can download free of charge. You will be amazed how much it would cost you to replace your garden investment!
  10. Finally, check your insurance policy to ensure that you are adequately covered - or whether you are covered at all!

Please don't make it easy for Tommy T-Leaf
